Our Founder/CEO interveened on the FoC Issues Topic at the European Parliament of Strasbourg
Rafaela Paulo Teixeira, our Founder/CEO, was selected to participate in the fifth edition of the European Youth Event (EYE2023) at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
Rafaela had the opportunity to interveen and speek with the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) about the issues related to Flags of Convenience (FoC) during the panel session “Safe and Clean Oceans – pirates, trafficking and fishing“. The topic was realted to piracy, robbery, trafficking and slavery, IUU fishing and pure danger. Topics that seem to be taken out of the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean”, but unfortunately they are not mere fiction! The Joint Parliamentary Assembly of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) states and the EU held this ocean debate i the view of its recently adopted report on “Enhancing cooperation on maritime security and promoting the rule of law on the oceans”.
Current threats and future challenges facing our oceans and human rights at sea were discussed in terms of security, legal, economic and environmental issues.
